Health is an important issue in our daily lives. People of all strata in the society irrespective of their socio-economic condition are very much concerned about their health. For conscious people, it is a matter of special interest to prevent the disease.
In that respect, the health column is of particular importance to a wide variety of readers of a newspaper. But writing on the health issues making it easy and understandable to the common readers is not an easy job. Dr Rubaiul Murshed has been doing this tough job for more than 20 years for the readers of The Daily Star.
I have seen how people were excited and eager to read his columns. I still recall one of the readers’ testimony, “This is something different from a traditional health column – it really helps me understand the complex issues in a simple manner. I really enjoy reading HAVE A NICE DAY.”
As the Editor of Star Health page of The Daily Star newspaper, it is my privilege and honour to publish his articles and present these to the readers for a quite long period of time. I was really happy when he compiled some of his selected articles for the book “HAVE A NICE DAY” and I am delighted to know that the third edition of this book is being printed.
Dr Murshed, being a popular writer, also initiated a movement named “Shomman”(www.shomman.org) to promote the rights of domestic workers, whom he calls “Helping Hands”; with a core slogan ‘Everything Begins at Home’.
I hope he will continue his column for the greater benefit of our readers in the years to come.
