About Us

Daily Star Books, the books wing of the Daily Star, aims to expand English readership in Bangladesh by making scintillating works of English fiction and non-fiction more accessible at an affordable price. It wishes to introduce Bangla literature to English readers the world over through excellent translation, a goal yet to be accomplished. It also aims to provide a solid platform for promising Bangladeshi English writers to be published.

It steps into the publishing scene of Bangladesh with India’s veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar’s autobiography, Beyond the Lines.

Daily Star Books aims to provide you with the best of books written in English at a price compatible with the local market. While imported English books are sold in the local market at an exorbitant price, we offer books by Bangladeshi or foreign authors at a much cheaper price.

Get Publish

DS Books welcomes manuscripts across a whole range of subjects including fiction, non-fiction and translation.

In fiction, we invite short stories and novels that bring out the society and history of Bangladesh. Diasporic writings are also welcome.

In non-fiction, it is recommended that writers or researchers focus on history, memoir and autobiography.

In translation, it should be noted, random selection is not encouraged. While choosing an author for translation, the author’s position in Bengali literature generally and in Bangladeshi literature particularly should be taken into consideration. Since it is one of our visions to introduce Bengali literature to international readers through translation, we’d like to present them with an overall picture instead of a fragmented one, beginning preferably with the masters such as Hasan Azizul Haque and Akhtaruzzaman Elias, then picking others from the subsequent generations.

How to submit

All submissions should be accompanied by a covering letter providing a synopsis of the work, a contents list and necessary information about the author/authors/editors and details of previous publications, if there is any. Instead of the whole manuscript, the first two or three chapters (four stories in case of short stories), should be submitted.

To submit by post, send your manuscript to:
